Windows Vista Network Card Configuration
To check to see if your computer is receiving an IP address:
- Click Start, Control Panel.
- Click Network and Internet.
- Click Network and Sharing Center.
- In the Tasks area of the sidebar, click Manage Network Connections.
- Right-click Local Area Connection and choose Status.
- On the General tab, click the Details... button.
- The IPv4 IP Address will list your IP address; IP addresses in the dorms usually begin with 128, 129 or 146.
If your IP address does not begin with 128, 129 or 146, continue:
- Click Close to close the Details window.
- Click Close to close the Status window.
- Right-click Local Area Connection and choose Properties. Windows may ask for your permission to continue; click Continue.
- On the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list of items, and click Properties.
- On the General tab, verify that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
- Click OK, then Close.
If your IP address is correct and you still cannot view web pages, check your proxy settings:
- Click Start, Control Panel.
- Click Network and Internet.
- Click Internet Options.
- On the Connections tab, click the LAN settings button.
- Verify that all boxes are unchecked, then click OK.
- Click OK to close the Internet Properties window.
