Subscription Options
You have two choices when signing up for Resnet:
- Pre-registration signup allows you to pay for Resnet on your Housing and Food bill. This means that your Internet access can be paid using scholarship money, or a loan or grant. In addition, you get a substantial savings for the academic year.
- On-site signup is for dorm residents who did not sign up in the spring. Although you will not receive a discount on your Resnet subscription, you have some flexibility with your account.
When you sign up for Resnet, you need to be sure to choose the right subscription for your Internet usage habits. Subscriptions are based on the amount of bandwidth used. To determine which Resnet subscription is right for you, refer to Choosing the Right Subscription.
Once you get to campus and move into your dorm room, you'll need to specify whether you want to use wired Resnet, wireless Resnet, or both. Wired connections are faster, but there's the chance that someone else might plug their computer into your port and use your bandwidth. You don't run that risk if you only use wireless Resnet, but your connection might be slower. On the other hand, with wireless Resnet, you can easily take your laptop anywhere in your residence hall and have Internet access. To determine whether wired or wireless Resnet (or both!) is best for you, refer to Wired or Wireless?
